FLORAL MEMORIES

This book features twelve flowers corresponding to each month in the calendar. Without changes in nature, it would be hard to notice the passage of time while living in the city, because we are surrounded by concrete buildings. I wanted to record the seasonal transformation of a year through the beauty of flowers.

There have been many times when I was strolling or walking to a destination and my experience was completely changed just by looking up or down, allowing me to really enjoy the presence of nature — especially when I saw flowers had bloomed in a place I didn’t expect.

I have asked my friends to share some stories and memories associated with each of the flowers in this book. In addition, for flowers that I could not find any personal stories for, I gathered an assortment of historical narratives, legends, or myths about the flowers to give the viewer some content and context.

Please enjoy this book through the scenery change in front of your eyes and become immersed in the stories of others.

The flowers were all woodblock printed (reduction), and the text was printed on an inkjet printer. The book was hand-bound using a Japanese binding technique.
